"I am not an artist!" Sound familiar? That is where I was just a few years ago. Then I stumbled across acrylic paint pouring while browsing Instagram and Pinterest. I couldn't believe some of the amazing artwork people were creating. When I dug a little deeper into fluid acrylic pouring, I realized that I was more than capable of doing paint pouring myself.
I am an IT nerd. I love most everything about technology. I've taken that analytic approach I use for my work and applied it to my acrylic paint pouring and I've become what I consider a successful acrylic pouring artist.
This channel is dedicated to anyone that doesn't think they are an artist; to all those that love what they see but don't believe they can create art; to any of you that are stuck and can't seem to figure this whole paint pouring thing out. Join me and lets fail, and therefore learn, together. You can do it. Let me show you how.

Spray paint and pouring at the same time?!?
I tried to spray paint the paint that was pouring out of my cup rather than spray after I had already poured the paint. I think the results was pretty cool.

Choose the right consistency for your Dutch Pour!
Просмотров 8 тыс.8 месяцев назад
When doing a Dutch pour you don't want paint that is too thick as it won't get cells and it won't spread out very well. You dont want super thin paint either as it has a greater chance of muddying the colors and of getting grainy looking (flocculation). I show you what the same painting looks like with THICK, MEDIUM, and THIN paint and why each one is different so you can choose the right consi...

what do you mean by gallery wrapped canvas?
Love your videos. I'm having issues with my silicone. It leaves divots or depressions in my paint where the silicone emerges. What's up??/

I love your videos🌺🌺🌺
I WONDER IF IT WOULD WORK ADDING CLING FILM TO THE METAL RACK.??
I like it. Whats not to like??
That's my mom
Left Brain- im getting discouraged. I need to have something click. I need to have something WORK i swear to christ I'm following all the guidelines im making all the measurements but im not get tting anything worthwhile. All the featuresare like microscopic. Its happening im getting cells n whatnot but its all so tiny it looks like when my friend and i wanted to skip school and tried to make fake puke from eveything in the fridge.. n kitchen.. guess the bathroom too.. well the whole house really. P.s. it didnt work lol
I love your videos because you EXPLAIN everything. You give the reasons why things work the way they work, and you give specifics! I too am a very technical thinker (I work in accounting and numbers don't have flexibility), and I WANT to create beautiful things but can't get out of my own head space to create. These videos help me CREATE beautiful things that I can't believe I made. Thank you!
I want to thank you. I REALLY appreciate and enjoy your channel (meaning your work). Until I found your channel, I was unable to create the right paint viscosity to make these kinds of paints. I wasted a lot of paint and quit for a while. But your channel inspired me to try again!! YOU taught me a reliable way to test viscosity BEFORE pouring the paint on the canvas and wasting it, again!!!❤️ You also helped me improve my blowdryer techniques! This is probably the fourth time I am watching this video. Each time I watch it, I pick up another helpful piece of information! I still struggle with picking colors, but the small successes I have had in that area also can be credited to YOUR videos…you explained how to read the paint labels, how to avoid transparent paint next to transparent paint, how complimentary colors need a color between them (I use white) to keep them from mixing to brown… Seriously, I could go on and on!! The reason I think you have been able to teach me more than the other wonderful artists out there because I am left-brained, too. The other artists are extremely talented and obviously wonderful teachers, but I do not always leave their videos understanding what I came there to learn, like right-brained people do. Viva la difference! The world would be boring it we were all the same. Thank you for teaching me in my 50’s!!❤❤ Request: If you could teach me how to pick colors that will always go well together, I would watch that video 1000 times! Most people seem to be able to “just see” what colors work together. Alas, I am not one of those lucky people! I bought an advanced color wheel chart that has a cutout placed on top of the color wheel to help you find five colors that are pleasing to the eye. That has helped, but I am sure you could break it down the concepts for me in a way that I actually understand how to pick colors! Would you consider doing a video like this??
Thank you for your knolage
What kind of glue do you use?
That was very useful and interesting, thank you from a total beginner
This is a EXCELLENT tutorial for beginners.
This was SO helpful! Thank you so much for sharing!
On a completely different topic... where is silver and gold on the color wheel?
Days and days I spent trying to discover "the cell secret". Finally thanks to you I got the answer. Thank you very much for your explanation.

Understanding how to layer the paints that are opaque and translucent
Mine are tacky on back edges, and just a little on front...it's been months since I did them! I was afraid to varnish them while they're still tacky?
I miss you! Please keep pouring!❤
Thanks Pam. I have been pouring and have a few videos I am editing. Just got busy with life.
Mixing brown on my own was hard but finally did it. Every artist should learn colour theory, it allows us the ability to create our own tints, tones and shades.
100% agree.
Would love to know how you got the densities chart? Did each brand send it to you and thus you were able to create the paint density chart that is on your site or did you do all of the calculations yourself?
I went out and found all the safety sheets for as many paints as I could find. Then grabbed their pigments and found the density of those pigments then guess-timated the quality of the paint to give it a density ratio. Not 100% accurate but a great guage to start from.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I love that you did this. There is nothing out there like this, that I could find. It really is another income stream for you, for artists worldwide. You can create a physical book with this- one large colour book separated by brand and then type- student, pro etc which then you can update every 2 years or so. If you ever need a designer, one of my friends is also a graphic designer and she helps me with my poetry book covers and I'm a writer and editor and can help with that if you need. Think about it and I'd do it before the brands do it .
You are such a great teacher 👏👏👍
Glad you think so Maurice.
I finally did one but learnt that I cannot go in and fix it because it ruins it. One part looks gorgeous but the rest not so much. Another thing I learnt is to do one petal at a time.
Those are the best lessons I think. So glad to hear you started. Can't wait to see what you create.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I think so too. Thanks so much :-). How do I add photos on here? Or does it have to be instagram or facebook?
@@prprprince6341 My website (same name) has a contact us page where you can email me pictures. Instragram or facebook works too.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Fantastic, thanks a lot!
Different brands here in New Zealand. Something I will be aware of it how tidy the canvas is folded, as can stick out so seen. I prefer the gallery wrapped ones as don't need to frame them but they do take up more space.
Good points.
Can this technique be used but without the heat so the little I guess they are called sales do not appear
I only use my hair dryers on low or no heat. Anytime you push paint around there is a change for cells. However, if you use paint that doesn't have a tendecy to cell and use mediums that aren't natural cell makers you'll seriously limit them.
I think I did my latest piece the wrong way. I applied gesso to a canvas that was used. I didn’t add medium to the paints, except for glue and floetrol. I bought the medium from Mod Podge Crackle, but it did not work for me. Could you tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Applying gesso and letting it dry is no problem. Glue and floetrol are essentially your pouring medium although they are cheap alternatives instead of the more expensive professional pouring mediums. Mod Podge crackly definitely won't work for this. Why do you think you didn't do it right?
@@LeftBrainedArtist I’m a bit mixed up. Firstly I read that the crackle medium doesn’t work on canvas, and from the videos I’ve seen. You’re supposed to use a paint color for the base coat and another color for the top coat.
@@AprilHolmes-jr3hk You don't "need" a base coat. Base coats can help paint move depending on how you want your painting to behave when tilting. Some techniques like the dutch pour work better with a base also. But I do a lot of pours with no base.
Thnx for mind blowing tutorial . You r wonderful teacher & M also excellent student . I am 72 yrs old lady . Very interesting time pass which would make my life really cheerful . God bless you . 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks and welcome
I keep this video for further checks, amazing information, simple well explained… thanks a lot this explain perfectly why colors combine in between…..
You're very welcome my friend.
This is a life saver!!!!
Thanks. Hope it helps.
what is crazing?
Crazing is more like tons of tiny cracks rather than big deep cracks.
I wanted to try circles (various colors over white) and let them dry but they were too wet that the circles did not hold.
Were you using a canvas or a hard board? If you want the circles to stay you want to use a hard painting surface.
@LeftBrainedArtist I was using a canvas but that I applied 2 layers of gesso to days earlier, guess that wasn't enough. Ah ok, will look into that. Thanks so much! 🙂
Might be a a silly question but you divided the 168 by 25. Where did the 25 come from?
One ounce of paint covers about 25 square inches of painting surface. So divide total surface area by 25 to approximate how much paint you need - I have a better explanation in this video - ruclips.net/video/cZPH2HCYDqc/видео.html
@LeftBrainedArtist Ohhh, thank you. Ok, will take a look at that. 🙂
Excellent information thank you very much. Haven’t started pouring yet. I like to get all the technical stuff in my head first.
Glad to help Lally.
Can you stir with a battery powered coffee stirrer? Or not a good idea.
It will make tons of little bubbles. If you don't mind tiny pinholes in your painting it isn't a problem but most people prefer not to see those.
Very good information on colour stacking thank you
My pleasure
